Senior SEO advice for businesses that need clearer priorities, better visibility and fewer pointless reports
I’m Rüdiger Dalchow, an independent SEO consultant based in Nottingham. I help businesses understand what is limiting their search visibility, what is worth fixing and where SEO can make a meaningful commercial difference.
That might involve strategic SEO consulting, a technical audit, local SEO, content and website structure, analytics or ongoing senior support. It might also involve deciding that SEO is not the next sensible investment.

Not sure what kind of SEO help you actually need?
Tell me what the website needs to achieve and what is currently getting in the way. I’ll give you an honest view of whether SEO is the right next step and what kind of work would be proportionate.
Discuss your SEO prioritiesSEO advice shaped around the business
A café in Hockley does not need the same SEO approach as a manufacturer in Colwick, a professional services firm in Nottingham city centre or an ecommerce company selling across the UK.
Obvious, perhaps. Yet plenty of SEO services are still sold as though every business needs the same audit, content plan and monthly retainer.
The right approach depends on how search contributes to the business. Does the website need to generate enquiries, bookings or sales? Are potential customers using Google to compare providers? Is local search important? Does the business operate nationally or internationally? Is the problem visibility, conversion, technical quality or simply a lack of direction?
Those questions come before recommendations.
SEO services for Nottingham businesses
The work depends on the problem rather than a predetermined package.
Strategic SEO consulting
For businesses that need clearer direction, better priorities or an experienced external view of an existing plan.
Technical SEO audits
For crawling, indexation, rendering, architecture, migration or performance problems. The result is an implementable set of priorities—not an enormous tool export.
Local SEO
For businesses relying on customers in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire or defined service areas, including Google Business Profile visibility, local pages, reputation signals and business information.
Content and website structure
For sites where useful pages are missing, important information is difficult to find or the content does not reflect how customers research and compare.
SEO measurement and analytics
For businesses with plenty of data but little confidence in what it means. I separate commercially relevant signals from numbers included because a dashboard had an empty space.
Ongoing SEO support
For organisations needing continued senior guidance, implementation support and prioritisation rather than another full-time hire.
Need help identifying the right starting point?
The answer may be a consultation, an audit, a defined project or ongoing support. It may also be that SEO is not where the next budget should go.
Discuss your situationWhen SEO is worth investing in
SEO matters when the website has a genuine commercial job to do: attracting qualified enquiries, supporting a longer buying process, increasing ecommerce sales, generating store visits or helping potential customers understand and trust the business.
Visibility alone is not enough. A website can receive more traffic without producing better leads, rank for impressive-looking keywords with little commercial relevance or publish large amounts of content without giving customers a better reason to choose the business.
Useful SEO connects search behaviour with business priorities. It considers:
- who the right customers are and what they search for while researching;
- what information they need before taking action;
- where the website currently creates friction;
- which improvements are likely to matter most.
That is a little less glamorous than promising page-one rankings. It is also considerably more useful.
Not every business needs an SEO retainer
A small local business may only need a well-maintained Google Business Profile, accurate contact information, clear service pages and a website that works properly on a mobile phone.
That does not make SEO irrelevant. It means the work should be proportionate. Sometimes a review identifies a larger project. Sometimes a few sensible corrections are enough.
Where ongoing SEO is unlikely to justify the cost, I will say so.
This is not a clever sales position. It is simply preferable to spending six months producing reports for a business that never needed a campaign.
How working together usually begins
Most engagements start with a straightforward conversation about the business, the website and the problem you are trying to solve.
1. Conversation
We clarify what the website needs to achieve, what is causing concern and what work has already been done.
2. Diagnosis
I establish whether the problem is strategic, technical, local, content-related—or not primarily an SEO problem.
3. Recommendation
The next step may be a focused review, a defined project or ongoing advisory support. The format should fit the problem.
SEO and AI-driven search
Search now includes more than traditional Google results. AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and other answer systems increasingly influence how people research subjects, compare businesses and form opinions.
Nobody can honestly guarantee that a business will “rank in ChatGPT”. The practical response is to make the business easier to understand and trust through clear content, consistent information, credible third-party references and a website that explains the organisation properly.
For businesses where this already matters, I also provide an AI Search Audit.
Why work with an independent Nottingham SEO consultant?
I live and work in Nottingham and support businesses locally, nationally and internationally. I have worked in digital marketing and SEO since the late 1990s, across agency and in-house environments.
I also organise the Nottingham SEO Roundtable, bringing experienced practitioners together to discuss what is changing, what is breaking and what still works.
Clients work directly with me. There is no junior account team, outsourced audit department or monthly presentation assembled to make ordinary activity look strategic.
You get an experienced view of what is happening, why it matters, what should be done first, what can be ignored and where the uncertainty remains.
Likely to be a good fit
- Your website has an important role in generating demand, leads or sales.
- You want experienced advice before committing significant time or budget.
- You value clear priorities and commercial reasoning.
Probably not a good fit
- You want guaranteed rankings.
- You want the cheapest possible monthly package.
- You mainly want reassuring reports containing steadily rising arrows.
There are businesses that sell those things. This is not one of them.
SEO consultant Nottingham FAQs
How much does an SEO consultant in Nottingham cost?
It depends on whether you need a focused consultation, an audit, a defined project or ongoing support. I recommend a proportionate format after understanding the problem rather than forcing every business into the same package.
Do you only work with Nottingham businesses?
No. I am based in Nottingham and work with businesses locally, across the UK and internationally.
What is the difference between an SEO consultant and an agency?
With me, you work directly with the person assessing the problem and making the recommendations. There is no hand-off to a junior account team. An agency may be more suitable when you need a larger delivery team across several disciplines.
Do I need an ongoing SEO retainer?
Not necessarily. Some businesses need a focused review or defined project. Others benefit from continued senior guidance. I will say when ongoing work is unlikely to justify the cost.
How long does SEO take to produce results?
It varies with the problem, market, website and implementation speed. Some technical corrections can have a relatively quick effect; competitive growth usually takes longer. I set expectations around the specific work rather than promising a universal timetable.
Can you guarantee rankings?
No. SEO is competitive and search results change. Anyone offering guaranteed rankings is selling certainty they do not control. Recommendations should still be clear, evidence-based and practical.
Can you work with our existing team or developer?
Yes. I regularly work alongside marketing teams, agencies and developers to clarify priorities, challenge assumptions and help implementation move forward.
