It seems in every post about SEO in the times of AI search (or GEO if you want) there is a mention that Reddit is the answer to be more visible.
For some time now businesses are flocking to get their Reddit Profile up and running and engage on this platform with their (potential) audience.
While I really support a varied way of communicating with your audience and always thought and said that SEO is not only about your website, I think a lot of people are overreacting now and think (and at times preach) that Reddit is the holy grail.
It is not.
It is one other channel to get your message out there, one other channel to communicate with your audience, do not neglect the others.
Reddit has had a stellar rise from being a (OK a very big one) platform social media community to one of the most displayed sites in the Google SERPs.
Funny thing is the rise started around the same time the August 2023 core update was rolled out and increased in velocity when the extended partnership with Google was announced in February 2024.
The question is will this continue, stagnate or reverse?
With reports in the Verge and TechCrunch citing Reddit’s CEO Steve Huffman’s ambitions to make the platform a search engine, it has to be seen how Google will take it when one of its favourite results becomes a competitor and eats into its profits.
Don’t get me wrong. I think businesses and brands should be wherever their audience is. Not only to communicate their message, but more important to be in a dialogue with potential and existing customers and to address any issues they have. Not only addressing issues but using the feedback actively to improve services and products and feed this back to the audience.
This is how to engage and build relationships and turn customers into a community.
But do not go all crazy and in a rush all-in only on Reddit.
Find where your audience is, make a realistic and holistic communication plan, not for one platform but for wherever people talk about you.
Don’t try to push your message out, but engage, address issues and concerns in a unified tone of voice on every platform (btw your website is a platform as well).
